History of High Falls Studios
|
In the mid 1800's the land at the corner of Mill and Commercial in the High Falls area of Rochester was owned by a Susan Redfield. In 1875 there was a Marble Works company. By 1888 the current building has gone up and it was the J.K. Hunt Paper Box Manufacturing Company. The official address was 186-190 Mill Street. The building apparently stayed the same until the 1920's when the Doyle Paper Company is mentioned. In 1926 it was Hall Sidney Sons Manufacturing. By 1935 it is listed as Cuyler, Chatfield and Wood's Company in the John K. Hunt Building. Union Paper and Twine was there at the same time. Later it became Canfield and Tack Printing. They moved out in the mid 1990's. The building was empty until redevelopement began. Construction on the Entercom Studios, including WROC NewsTalk 950, started in the summer of 2002.
By November we were ready to move in, and Mayor Johnson cut the ribbon on the new High Falls Studios.
The new studios for WROC-AM and the 3 other Entercom stations in the building are the finest in Rochester. |
